Rep. Don Bacon, who has represented Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district since 2017, used his social media platform on November 1, 2025, to communicate with constituents about the ongoing government shutdown and recent changes affecting military engagement with Congress.
In a post made at 5:55 PM UTC, Bacon invited residents to participate in an upcoming tele-townhall. He wrote, ” Join me on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 PM CT for a tele-townhall to discuss the shutdown & take your questions. Participate by phone (855-962-1225) or online at https://t.co/hSMEaLPi2P. *Subject to change if the House is called into session.” The event aims to address concerns related to the government shutdown and offer constituents an opportunity for direct engagement.
Later that day at 10:57 PM UTC, Bacon addressed recent policy changes impacting communication between the military and members of Congress. In his tweet he stated, “I was a five-time commander & our leadership WANTED us to engage members of Congress. We wanted to share what our great airmen were doing. We were proud of our service. The new rules have put a large barrier between the military & Congress. Pentagon says the change is very small.”
At 10:58 PM UTC on the same day, Bacon commented on his office’s ongoing efforts during the shutdown period despite delays in federal agency responses. He wrote, “Despite the Democrat Leadership shutdown, our team is here to help NE-02 residents with issues they are facing with federal agencies. Agencies may have slower response times & minimal staffing, but we can still submit requests & advocate on your behalf.”
Bacon’s communications come amid continued partisan disagreement in Washington leading to government funding lapses and disruptions in public services—a recurring issue over recent years as budget negotiations stall.
Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Don Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
