Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several national issues in a series of tweets posted on July 22, 2025.
In one post, Bacon called for bipartisan cooperation to address entitlement reform: “I support legislation that puts together a group, half Republican and half Democrat to solve the Social Security and Medicare issue. It has to be bipartisan to truly fix it. It’s going to take both sides coming together and making the case to the American people.” (July 22, 2025).
Bacon also criticized the handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan: “The way we withdrew from Afghanistan was a disaster and executed terribly that cost 13 lives, including one from Omaha.” (July 22, 2025).
On transparency regarding high-profile investigations, Bacon responded to questions about the Epstein files by stating: “My position is that sunlight is good. Whatever files, whether from grand juries or the executive branch, should be released. The country deserves to know as much truth as possible. That said I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s nothing damning that hasn’t been” (July 22, 2025).
Don Bacon has served in Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and is currently based in Papillion, Nebraska. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, Bacon graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in 1984 and later attended the University of Phoenix.
