Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, posted a series of statements on September 10, 2025, emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict and outlining what he views as conservative principles regarding U.S. foreign policy.
In his first post, Bacon stated, “The United States does not have troops in this war, but a Ukrainian victory is in our national security interests. A thriving Ukraine that is a democracy with free markets is in our national security interest. If Ukraine falls, then you can assume Moldova, Georgia and others” (September 10, 2025).
He continued by asserting the ideological stance he believes the United States should take: “United States must be on the side of freedom. It is not conservative to appease Putin nor is it conservative to have a lack of moral clarity on who is at fault for this war. It is not a conservative position to embrace isolationism and to have a muffled voice against war crimes.” (September 10, 2025).
Bacon concluded his remarks by referencing public opinion: “Two-thirds of Americans are with Ukraine today. Let us ensure the U.S. House is also on the side of freedom.” (September 10, 2025).
Don Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in Congress in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
