Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on October 14, 2025, addressing government funding negotiations, international economic comparisons, and Pentagon media policy.
In a tweet posted at 21:03 UTC, Bacon wrote, “Let’s decipher: In the Senate, 98% of GOP are voting for a clean CR to keep government open, while 94% of Dems are voting to keep it closed. It takes 60 votes out of 100 to move forward. President Obama demanded clean, short term CRs, w/ no political strings attached… so do we.” The message refers to ongoing debates over a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government and avoid a shutdown.
Later that evening, at 21:24 UTC, Bacon commented on Russia’s economic standing, stating, “Just plain silly. Russia has the fifth largest economy in Europe… four European NATO countries have larger economies than Russia, not including the U.S. and Canada.”
At 23:03 UTC, Bacon thanked journalist Connell McShane and offered opinions on media access and legislative negotiations, writing, “I thank @connellmcshane: 1. The new Pentagon media policy is not wise. The media has never had unfettered Pentagon access. We protect freedom of the press. 2. The House CR is the bipartisan standard… it is a clean CR. The Schumer shutdown gives more power to the President.”
Bacon, born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since 2017, succeeding Brad Ashford. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
