Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media account to comment on recent legislative actions following a government shutdown. Bacon criticized Congressional Democratic leaders and highlighted bipartisan efforts to reopen the government and address key funding issues.
On November 12, 2025, Bacon expressed surprise at opposition from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries regarding a vote to end the shutdown. He wrote, “I’m shocked @RepJeffries is whipping against this vote. The shutdown achieved nothing but harm to 1.4M federal workers, 42M Americans relying on SNAP, & our nation’s air travel system. I’ve offered a bipartisan path forward on ACA tax credits & most Republicans don’t want to see”.
Later that evening, Bacon announced his support for reopening the government with another post: “I voted yes to open the government back up after this unnecessary and damaging shutdown perpetrated by Congressional Democrat leaders that achieved nothing. Today’s vote funds three of twelve appropriations bills through September 30th next year and funds the rest of government” (November 13, 2025).
In a subsequent message posted minutes later, Bacon acknowledged members across the aisle who supported measures benefiting federal employees and public services: “Thank you to these six Dems who voted to pay Federal Employees, fund SNAP and keep air travel safe.” (November 13, 2025).
Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and resides in Papillion. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, he holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
