Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, posted a series of comments on social media addressing both the ongoing government shutdown and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On October 7, 2025, Bacon highlighted the economic impact of the government shutdown on Nebraska, writing, “The Council of Economic Advisers estimates Nebraska’s Gross State Product will decline by around $98M each week the Democrat Leadership shutdown extends. For decades we haven’t shut down over a bipartisan clean CR. @RepJeffries & @SenSchumer, it’s time to reopen the government.”
Later the same day, Bacon posted a message referencing Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, “If you’re in Russia and know Putin, stay on the first floor and don’t hydrate.” On October 8, 2025, he followed up with a brief note, “Happy Birthday to Vladimir Putin.”
Don Bacon, 59, was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and later from the University of Phoenix. Bacon succeeded Brad Ashford as the representative for Nebraska’s 2nd district.
