Rep. Don Bacon, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district, has expressed his views on various international issues through a series of tweets. Bacon, who succeeded Brad Ashford in 2017, has been vocal about Ukraine’s sovereignty, support for Israel’s defense operations, and the importance of information dissemination in Iran.
On June 21, 2025, Rep. Bacon addressed the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He stated that “There’s one big problem: Ukrainians refuse to be part of Russia.” He referenced historical events by noting that “Stalin murdered approx 4 million Ukrainians in the 1930s,” emphasizing Ukraine’s desire for democracy and alignment with Western values rather than Russian affiliation.
Later that day, Bacon shared his stance on military operations involving Israel and Iran. In his tweet at 14:43 UTC, he declared his support for defensive measures by stating “I fully support our defensive operations helping Israelis shoot down Iranian missiles & drones.” However, he emphasized a preference for non-involvement in offensive actions over Iran.
In another post at 15:32 UTC on June 21st, Bacon highlighted an article from The Wall Street Journal regarding media influence in Iran. He quoted the publication saying “Iranians need truth to counter the regime’s lies,” stressing the significance of Radio Farda and U.S. communications technology in disseminating truthful information within Iran.
Don Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
