Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on August 30, 2025, to comment on the four-year anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and to criticize President Biden’s handling of the event.

In a post from August 30, Bacon referenced an interview with Fox News and stated: “Fox News: Don Bacon recalling the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal: “Worst thing I’ve ever seen a President do in my lifetime.””

Later that day, Bacon expanded on his criticism and reflected on the consequences of the withdrawal. He wrote: “WATCH: Today I joined @FoxNews to discuss redistricting and reflect on the 4-year anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal. President Biden’s decision to ignore our military leaders resulted in a botched withdrawal and the tragic loss of 13 American lives.” This message was posted at 21:15 UTC.

Bacon also alleged that a terrorist detainee responsible for killing Americans during the evacuation had been released during Biden’s administration. At 22:32 UTC, he posted: “The terrorist detainee that murdered 13 Americans during the Afghanistan withdrawal was let out during Biden’s watch.”

Don Bacon has served as a member of Congress since 2017 after replacing Brad Ashford. He was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.

The U.S. military withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021 under orders from President Joe Biden, ending nearly two decades of American involvement in the country. The evacuation faced significant challenges, including attacks at Kabul airport that resulted in casualties among both U.S. service members and Afghan civilians.
