Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, shared several posts on his social media account on August 2, 2025, addressing topics ranging from federal tax policy to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In one post, Bacon criticized the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), stating on August 2: “Biden’s IRA Act gave money to IRS to audit citizens, not for customer service. The audits paid for the bill.”
Turning to international affairs and historical context, Bacon drew a parallel between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. On August 2 he wrote: “Stalin murdered four million Ukrainians in the 1930s… Putin is following in his evil footsteps.”
Later that day, Bacon commented further on Russia’s military actions in Ukraine: “Unfortunately, Putin and the leaders around him don’t care how many Russian casualties they suffer. A million Russian casualties in the war against Ukraine is reality now. The cost to Putin and Russia must be increased before Putin realizes he cannot win.”
Bacon has served as Nebraska’s representative since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in 1984 and later attended the University of Phoenix.
