Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, voiced concerns on October 11, 2025, regarding vacancies and national security threats in a series of posts on his social media account.
In one post from October 11, Bacon criticized the prolonged leadership gaps at two major U.S. cyber defense agencies: “This makes my blood boil. The top spot at Cyber Command and the top two spots at National Security Agency have been vacant for over six months. Infighting and incompetence. Haugh and Hartman are both great leaders and deserved better. This is unacceptable.”
He continued to address cybersecurity issues later that day by highlighting the importance of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA): “CISA is the FRONT LINE in defending our power grid, infrastructure and private sector against cyber attacks from China, Russia and criminals. Why are we making it easier for our cyber threats?” CISA is widely recognized as a key agency tasked with protecting critical U.S. infrastructure from foreign and criminal cyberattacks.
In another post dated October 11, Bacon commented on Iran’s involvement with Hamas: “It is no secret… Iran was funding Hamas. Iran got what it deserved this year.”
Don Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, he currently resides in Papillion and holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
