Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, posted several statements on October 1, 2025, addressing the recent government shutdown and international affairs.
In an early morning post on October 1, Rep. Bacon wrote, “The Schumer-Jeffries shutdown has started. It is harmful to most Americans.”
Later that day, he elaborated on his stance regarding government shutdowns and congressional negotiation processes: “Historically, the political party who shuts down government to force a policy change has failed. Clean Continuing Resolutions have always passed. Further, shut downs empower the executive branch. Schumer and Jeffries failed. The Approps process is when we negotiate.”
On international issues, Rep. Bacon commented on Russia’s responsibility in Ukraine: “Russia should have to pay to rebuild from all destruction they caused in Ukraine.”
Rep. Don Bacon succeeded Brad Ashford as representative for Nebraska’s 2nd district in 2017 and has maintained this position since then. He was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion at age 59. His educational background includes a BA from Northern Illinois University and additional studies at the University of Phoenix.
