Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, used his social media platform on November 13, 2025, to comment on the recent government shutdown and its aftermath.
In a post early that morning, Bacon wrote: “Americans won. But, we have big problems to solve. Shutting down the government is a stupid way forward by Democrats.” (November 13, 2025).
Later in the day, he addressed leadership in Congress by stating: “Schumer and Jeffries wanted the government shutdown and blamed the GOP for it. Then they were furious when government reopened. Shutting down government, not paying the federal workers, cutting off SNAP, creating havoc at our airports… it was all wrong and dumb.” (November 13, 2025).
By late afternoon, Bacon called for bipartisan cooperation to address healthcare costs: “The shutdown was unnecessary but harmful to millions. With government open now, we must find a bipartisan plan to address the unaffordable ACA premiums that continue to get more expensive. I’ve proposed a plan with Republicans & Democrats. We know we must work this quickly.” (November 13, 2025).
Bacon’s comments come amid ongoing debates over fiscal policy and healthcare reform in Congress.
Don Bacon has served as representative of Nebraska’s 2nd District since defeating Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
