Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, criticized recent Department of Defense decisions and tax policy proposals in a series of tweets on July 22, 2025.
In his first post at 15:00 UTC, Bacon addressed the renaming of military bases and the removal of certain names. He wrote, “General Bragg was one of the worst generals in American history.” It was a lack of judgement for SecDef to remove names like Eisenhower, Moore and Benavidez (latter two were Vietnam war heroes) and return them back to names of Confederate generals.
Shortly after, at 15:05 UTC, Bacon commented on economic policy debates, stating, “If we want to get an economy that’s moving — that’s growing at 3% GDP or better — we had to stabilize our tax policies. Doing a 20% tax increase was not acceptable in my view.” More from @OWHnews
Later that day at 16:04 UTC, Bacon reiterated his concerns about actions by the Department of Defense: Most people see through the BS. DoD is flaunting the will of Congress, and removing the names of Eisenhower, Moore and Benavidez, heroes to all Americans, will backfire.
Don Bacon has served as Nebraska’s representative in Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
