Rep. Don Bacon, currently serving Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of tweets addressing defense spending, international military tensions, and work requirements for welfare recipients.
On July 2, 2025, Bacon expressed concerns about the current defense budget: “We are spending 2.9% of GDP on defense, the lowest since 1940 before WW2. It is inadequate for the security of our nation. We will go a long way in fixing this with the Reconciliation Bill.”
The following day, on July 3, he commented on geopolitical developments involving North Korea: “The North Korean leader is giving these 30,000 troops a one-way ticket…”
In another tweet posted later that day, Bacon criticized certain political views on work ethics and welfare: “Some liberals hate work. Work requirements for healthy adults with no children is supported by 72% of Americans. It is a low bar too. It requires 20 hours of work, looking for work, volunteering or taking classes per week. But some liberals don’t value work.”
Don Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and has been representing Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. He resides in Papillion and holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
