Rep. Don Bacon, currently serving Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017, has been vocal on several issues through his recent social media posts. The Congressman, who was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and now resides in Papillion, has announced his retirement plans and shared his views on various political topics.
On July 5, 2025, Rep. Don Bacon addressed speculation regarding his decision to retire from Congress by stating that he plans to step down in 2027. He expressed a desire to spend more time with family and avoid the demanding schedule required to maintain his position. He clarified this by saying “Some like to spin my retirement from Congress to fit their own wishes. I’m retiring from Congress in 2027 to spend more time with family & home.”
In another post made later that day, Bacon discussed the topic of work requirements for healthy adults without children. He noted that such requirements had previously enjoyed bipartisan support and claimed “72% of Americans still support this today.” This statement highlights an ongoing debate about welfare policies and public opinion surrounding them.
Further elaborating on international relations, Bacon commented on isolationism with a succinct tweet asserting its potential negative consequences: “Isolationism doesn’t bring peace, but it leads to victimhood, subservience and slavery.” His stance reflects concerns about the implications of withdrawing from global engagement.
Don Bacon graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and later attended the University of Phoenix. Now aged 59, he continues to represent Nebraska’s interests while sharing insights into both domestic and international policy discussions.
