Rep. Don Bacon, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district, has shared his views on recent developments involving Russia and Ukraine through a series of tweets. Bacon, who replaced Brad Ashford in 2017, has been vocal about the ongoing conflict.
On July 8, 2025, Rep. Bacon expressed his stance regarding the situation between Russia and Ukraine. He stated, “This is the absolute right answer after Putin bombs Ukrainian cities every night. Putin has to be convinced he cannot win.” His comments come amid ongoing hostilities where Russian forces have been actively targeting Ukrainian cities.
Later that day, Bacon posted another tweet without additional commentary but included a link: “https://t.co/sZBADmbRUj”. The context or content of this link was not elaborated upon in the tweet itself.
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Bacon remarked on Russia’s military performance and criticized those who might show signs of surrender in historical conflicts. He noted, “Putin is not winning. There are 800,000 Russian casualties and Russia has made minimal gains on the ground. I’m glad you weren’t leading our forces in the Revolutionary War or early in the Civil War. You would have carried a big white flag, not the American flag.”
Don Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in 1984 and later from the University of Phoenix.
