Representative Don Bacon, who has served Nebraska’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several defense and veterans’ issues through a series of posts on social media. The topics included amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), advocacy for a new VA hospital, and commentary on the role of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in national security.
On July 15, 2025, Bacon announced that House Armed Services Committee Republicans had adopted his amendments to the fiscal year 2026 NDAA. He stated: “.@HASCRepublicans just adopted my 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th #FY26NDAA amendments directing an independent assessment of toxic exposure in the AF ICMB community, the establishment of the Center for Strategic Deterrence & WMD Studies at NDU, reforms to DoD casualty assistance”.
Later that day, Bacon highlighted his commitment to veterans’ healthcare infrastructure. On July 15, he wrote: “One of my top priorities this term is to get a new VA Hospital in the books for future construction. Our 70-year old hospital needs replacing and our vets deserve better.”
In another post on July 15, Bacon discussed U.S. nuclear deterrence capabilities. He commented: “Our ICBMs are the most cost-effective nuclear deterrent, typically maintaining a 95% readiness rate. Their proven reliability makes it extremely difficult for adversaries to target our nuclear forces effectively. ICBMs remain vital for America’s long-term strategic deterrence.”
Don Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in 1984 and also attended the University of Phoenix.
