Rep. Don Bacon, who has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently shared a series of updates on social media regarding legislative developments and international affairs. Bacon, born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and now residing in Papillion, highlighted his ongoing work with the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) and addressed issues related to U.S. national security.
On July 16, 2025, Rep. Bacon announced that the House Armed Services Committee Republicans had adopted his amendment concerning modular open systems requirements for the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). He stated: “.@HASCRepublicans just adopted my 13th #FY26NDAA amendment on modular open systems requirements.”
Later that day, Bacon commented on the situation in Ukraine and its broader implications for global security. He wrote: “A Russian victory in Ukraine will cost us more as other nations like Moldova, Georgia, and Azerbaijan could fall next. Ukrainians are doing the fighting, but they need our weapons support to survive. Standing up to bullies is essential for our national security interests.” This statement reflects concerns about regional stability and emphasizes continued U.S. support for Ukraine.
In another post from July 16, Bacon provided a lighter update on the committee’s long hours during legislative sessions: “Diet Coke fueling @HASCRepublicans as we go on 13 hours.”
Don Bacon replaced Brad Ashford in Congress in 2017 after earning degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
