Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, highlighted local and federal efforts in recent social media posts on March 24, 2026. Bacon acknowledged emergency responders and addressed policy initiatives concerning SNAP benefits.
On March 24, Bacon recognized the efforts of fire crews in western Nebraska: “We thank these eight @OmahaFireDept crewmembers for bravely supporting efforts to contain the historic fires in western Nebraska alongside Lincoln Fire, local volunteer firefighters, and the Nebraska National Guard.”
Later that day, he commented on food assistance application processing: “When people apply for SNAP Benefits, it is because they are already struggling. I want to make sure states can process applications quickly so people can get the assistance they need.” He also encouraged readers to learn more about related legislation by sharing an op-ed: “Read more about the SNAP Staffing Flexibility Act in a joint op-ed with @RepDavidRouzer below”
Bacon’s comments come as parts of western Nebraska have faced significant wildfires requiring coordinated responses from multiple agencies. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) remains a focal point of federal and state policy discussions regarding support for low-income households.
Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix. He has served continuously in Congress since replacing Brad Ashford following the 2016 election.
