Rep. Don Bacon, U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, shared updates on recent legislative actions in a series of tweets posted on July 21, 2025.
In his first tweet, Bacon highlighted the outcome of a recent vote on the rescissions package: “Last week we voted on the rescissions package. During negotiations, we funded 92% of President Bush’s PEPFAR program, which saved 26 million lives and prevented 8 million babies from being born with AIDS. The Senate improved it even more.” (July 21, 2025)
Bacon followed this by noting progress in securing support for local media: “I also received a commitment to provide annual funding for local public media.” (July 21, 2025)
He also addressed tax policy changes affecting families in Nebraska: “A few weeks ago we voted on the reconciliation bill, also known by some as the Big Beautiful Bill. The most critical part was renewing the tax cuts. Without it the average Nebraska family would have faced a 20% tax increase, or about $141 a month and $1,700 a year.” (July 21, 2025)
Don Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd district since succeeding Brad Ashford in Congress in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
