Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, posted a series of updates on his social media account highlighting recent developments in weather monitoring and U.S. foreign policy toward Russia.
On August 7, 2025, Bacon shared news regarding staffing at the National Weather Service (NWS), stating, “Great news! @NWS is hiring 450+ meteorologists, hydrologists & radar technicians nationwide. Following my letter to the Secretary of Commerce about NOAA staffing, I’m pleased to see this commitment to weather monitoring expertise. This ensures Nebraskans have the critical”. He also provided access to his correspondence with Department of Commerce Secretary Lutnick by posting, “Read my full letter to Department of Commerce Secretary Lutnick below https://t.co/dzrxMTQ1wP”.
In a separate post on August 8, 2025, Bacon addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and called for stronger action from the U.S. administration: “The Russians have ignored President Trump. They’re bombing Ukrainian cities more than ever. The President must play hardball by sending the weapons Ukraine needs and implement tough secondary sanctions against countries propping up Russia’s war economy. https://t.co/5gnpspFaPE”.
Don Bacon has served as Nebraska’s representative in Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and currently resides in Papillion. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, he holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
