Rep. Don Bacon, who has represented Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets on November 20, 2025, referencing American Civil War figures and discussing international cooperation among free nations.

A few minutes later at 18:24 UTC, he added another post quoting a prominent Union general: “General Grant says, “Stop the censures!” https://t.co/OyuJWlaiNZ”.
Later that day at 18:53 UTC, Bacon acknowledged an invitation from an EU official and emphasized the importance of defending freedom globally: “I thank EU Ambassador Jovita NeliupšienÄ— for the invitation to speak to military attaches serving in DC. Only 5% of mankind in all of history have lived in freedom. Our freedom had to be won & defended. Free nations must work together to defeat threats today & in the future. https://t.co/8OMt0lIkFP”.
Bacon’s remarks come as part of his ongoing engagement with both historical references and contemporary diplomatic efforts. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix. He succeeded Brad Ashford as representative for Nebraska’s 2nd district beginning in 2017.
