Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed several issues in a series of tweets on October 1, 2025.
In his first post, Bacon announced that he has requested his pay be withheld during the ongoing government shutdown. On October 1, 2025, he stated: “Until the Schumer-Jeffries shutdown ends, I have requested that my pay be withheld. I’m pleased many of my colleagues have asked for the same until an appropriations agreement has taken effect.”
Later the same day, Bacon commented on Medicaid access and emergency care for undocumented immigrants. He wrote on October 1, 2025: “People say that those here illegally can’t receive Medicaid, but the facts are that without the WFTCA, states CAN claim enhanced federal funding for reimbursing hospitals that provide emergency services to illegal immigrants.”
Addressing international affairs in a third tweet posted on October 1, 2025, Bacon discussed Israel’s longstanding conflict with Hamas. He wrote: “ICYMI: Israel has tried for decades to meet in the middle, but Hamas would rather die than make peace. Thank you @NewsNation for having me on.”
Bacon replaced Brad Ashford in Congress and was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 before moving to Papillion. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
