Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, used his social media platform on September 16, 2025, to call for urgent congressional action on Russian sanctions and emphasize the importance of civility in political discourse.
In a post published at 15:53 UTC, Bacon stated, “The WSJ Editorial Board is right. It is time for Congress to stop dragging its feet and to pass a tough Russian sanctions bill now.” In another message posted at the same time, he addressed congressional leadership directly: “If @LeaderJohnThune and @SpeakerJohnson continue to deny votes on the House and Senate floors on Russian sanctions, they’ll be complicit in whatever fate befalls Ukraine.”
Later that day, at 21:48 UTC, Bacon shifted focus to political conduct with a third statement: “Voters should expect and demand civility and decency from their elected representatives. Demonizing the other side hurts us all.”
Bacon’s comments come amid ongoing debates in Congress regarding additional sanctions against Russia. The push for further legislative action follows continued concerns about U.S. support for Ukraine as it faces military aggression from Russia.
A member of Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017, Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
