Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, commented on recent military and defense developments in a series of posts on October 7, 2025.

In his first post, Bacon expressed support for actions aimed at diminishing Russia’s military and economic strength, stating on October 7, 2025: “This is a great and a smart decision. Russia’s military and economic capabilities must be targeted and degraded. When Putin realizes the costs of this war that he started are too high then he’ll end this war.”

Later the same day, Bacon criticized the Pentagon’s civilian leadership for recent media issues, writing on October 7, 2025: “This whole media kerfuffle in the Pentagon was an “own goal” by the civilian leadership. Some common sense please…”

In another post, Bacon addressed concerns over cybersecurity leadership within the U.S. military, stating on October 7, 2025: “The Commander of Cyber Command was fired 6 months ago for no reason. He was the most qualified & most prepared leader to be the commander. The position remains vacant while we are under cyber attack everyday. The extreme negligence is indefensible.”

Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since succeeding Brad Ashford in 2017 and currently resides in Papillion. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, he holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
