Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed several foreign policy and defense concerns in a series of posts on December 5, 2025.
In his first post, Bacon criticized the Pentagon’s recent decision regarding troop withdrawals: “After discussions with numerous Allied leaders & colleagues in Congress, it’s clear the Pentagon made the decision to withdraw troops from Romania without consulting Allies or Congress. This sent a terrible message to NATO & Russia. In response, Congress will attempt to codify” (December 5, 2025).
Later that day, Bacon expressed appreciation for an invitation from the International Democrat Union (IDU), referencing its founding by prominent political figures: “Thank you @idualliance for inviting me to speak at your 2025 forum. The IDU was founded by Ronald Reagan & Margaret Thatcher to defend freedom & democracy. I am a Ronald Reagan Republican. You can be a Republican & you can be far right, but that does not make you a conservative.” (December 5, 2025).
In another post addressing security issues within the Department of Defense leadership, Bacon commented on an Inspector General report concerning the Secretary of Defense: “Saying the IG report totally exonerates SECDEF is total baloney. I read the report which shows he released sensitive information on an unclassified phone, a prime target for Russia & China. If that info reached Yemen it could have compromised the mission & put our pilots at risk.” (December 5, 2025).
Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and resides in Papillion after being born in Momence, Illinois in 1963. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and later attended the University of Phoenix.
