Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of statements on September 9, 2025, outlining his positions on national security and international relations.
In one post, Bacon commented on Lithuania’s geopolitical strategy: “Lithuania has made the tough but right decisions to create independence from Russia, but to also be a leader in NATO & ally of the U.S. I will advocate for a strong U.S. partnership with our Baltic friends & will oppose those in the DoD who want to walk away from Eastern Europe.” (September 9, 2025).
Shortly after, Bacon addressed military leadership concerning cyber defense: “I support the President’s decision to keep Cyber Command and NSA under a single four-star command. Dual-hat leadership ensures we have ‘unified direction’ for both organizations that must work together to be successful.” (September 9, 2025).
Later that day, he highlighted concerns over Taiwan’s defense posture amid tensions with China: “Day #1 of a war with China invading Taiwan is a day too late to prevent that war. Taiwan needs sea mines, anti-shipping missiles, swarm drones, air and missiles defenses now. We want China to look at Taiwan and say, ‘invading Taiwan will be too hard.’ We need deterrence.” (September 9, 2025).
Bacon has served as the congressional representative for Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. He was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. His educational background includes degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
