The U.S. Senate is being urged to reject the appointment of a colonel from Offutt Air Force Base to brigadier general due to his promotion of Pride Month celebrations and inclusive policies. This call comes from Victoria Manning, a columnist for Restoration News.

Colonel Scott P. Weyermuller, who currently serves as the senior executive officer to the Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, posted a message celebrating Pride Month in 2024. In this post, Weyermuller said that “inequity and discrimination undermine the Air Force’s Core Values,” emphasizing an inclusive culture for all personnel at Barksdale Air Force Base. According to Weyermuller, his leadership at the 2nd Bomb Wing has focused on fostering inclusivity and aligning with diversity and equity initiatives.

Manning wrote that it is crucial for President Trump to appoint military officers who will follow the orders of the Commander in Chief enthusiastically. She expressed concern that some recent announcements for senior officer promotions include individuals she believes are not qualified due to their “leftist ideology.” Manning further suggested that President Trump should retract these nominations or that the Senate should decline them if they do not align with a “warrior-focused military.”

Doug Truax, CEO of Restoration of America and a U.S. Army veteran, told Omaha City Wire about the need to focus on recruiting warriors into the military.

President Trump issued an executive order on January 27—his first week back in office—banning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the military. The order aims to eliminate race- and sex-based discrimination while restoring merit and lethality in the armed forces. Despite this mandate, Restoration claims that Weyermuller’s nomination indicates ongoing resistance to merit-based reforms at senior command levels.
