Omaha softball defeated North Dakota State 17-7 on Mar. 22, completing a three-game sweep in the season-opening Summit League series at Connie Claussen Field. The Mavericks scored 10 runs in the first inning and sent 14 batters to the plate, led by senior Taylor Sedlacek’s first of two home runs for the day.

The game was played in windy conditions with temperatures in the 40s, but Omaha (20-7, 3-0 Summit) maintained its strong performance. Sedlacek finished with two home runs and five runs batted in, bringing her season total to 11 home runs. The Mavericks have now homered in 15 consecutive games.

Senior Bailey Sample contributed four hits, including two doubles. Junior Katherine Johnson went three for four with four RBI, while junior Sammy Schmidt added two hits and four RBI as Omaha collected a total of 13 hits during the five-inning run-rule victory.

North Dakota State (16-16, 0-3) took an early lead with Savannah Henzler’s two-run homer off Omaha sophomore starter Grace Hornbuckle. Hornbuckle allowed no further runs over her three innings pitched. Sophomore Alyson Edwards threw the final two innings and earned her second win of the season.

Omaha entered the week ranked fourth in the D1Softball Mid-Major Rankings and will host Creighton on Wednesday night at Connie Claussen Field. The Mavericks will finish their seven-game homestand with Summit League games against Kansas City over the weekend. All home games are available via live stream on the Summit League Network.
