Creighton University announced on Mar. 26 that men’s basketball players Ty Davis and Isaac Traudt have been named to the Academic All-District team by College Sports Communicators. This marks only the second time since the 2003-04 season that two Bluejays have received this recognition in the same year.

The selection highlights both academic achievement and athletic performance among student-athletes. To qualify, nominees must be starters or key reserves with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, be sophomores academically and athletically, and have participated in at least 90 percent of their team’s games or started at least two-thirds of them.

Traudt, a Financial Planning major from Grand Island, Nebraska, has played in all 32 games this season with 21 starts. He is averaging 6.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while leading his team with a three-point shooting percentage of 38.9 percent and an overall free throw percentage of 83.3 percent. Traudt is also a member of Creighton’s Dean’s List and was named to the BIG EAST’s All-Academic Team for another consecutive year after earning Academic All-District honors last season.

Davis, a sophomore Finance major from Mountain Brook, Alabama, has appeared in 31 games including twelve starts this season for Creighton. He has contributed with 51 rebounds, 41 points, and thirty-five assists while maintaining a free throw rate of nearly seventy-nine percent (78.9%). Davis was also selected to the BIG EAST’s All-Academic Team for the upcoming academic year and has made Creighton’s Dean’s List during both years on campus.

Student-athletes chosen as Academic All-America finalists will advance to national voting by CSC members; first-, second-, and third-team honorees are set to be announced April 14.

As preparations continue for their tenth straight postseason appearance—facing Rutgers on April 2 in Las Vegas as part of the College Basketball Crown—the Bluejays note that their last Academic All-American was Steven Ashworth who earned First Team honors during the previous academic year.
