Senior Lily West and freshman Zoey Greenwood each had four hits and five runs batted in, leading the Creighton Bluejays softball team to a 15-3 win over Seton Hall on Saturday in South Orange, New Jersey. Freshman pitcher Ava Drehs earned her first collegiate victory, giving up three runs on four hits with one strikeout.
With this result, Creighton improved its season record to 8-14 and started 2-0 in BIG EAST conference play for only the sixth time since joining the league in 2014. Seton Hall dropped to 6-9 overall and remains winless in conference games at 0-2.
The Bluejays took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning after Greenwood singled and West hit her second home run of the season. In the second inning, Creighton added six more runs with contributions from Avery Barnard, who hit a two-run triple, as well as RBI hits from Greenwood, West, Kaelan Schultz, and Tara Vandewater.
Creighton continued their offensive performance with three more runs in the third inning—including another two-run triple by Greenwood—and extended their lead to 15-0 after a four-run fourth inning highlighted by an RBI single from Ella Dalton and consecutive RBI doubles from Greenwood and West. Seton Hall scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth but could not close the gap before the game ended under run-rule conditions.
Landrie Harris pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief for Creighton. Vandewater contributed two hits to support the offense.
The series between Creighton and Seton Hall concludes Sunday at 11 a.m. Central Time.
