Creighton University announced on Mar. 23 that Zoey Greenwood has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time this spring after leading the Bluejays softball team to a series sweep over Villanova.

This recognition is Greenwood’s second Freshman of the Week award in three weeks, with her previous honor coming on March 9. The university also said that sophomore Tara Vandewater and freshman Audrey Gilman were named to this week’s BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

During Creighton’s three-game sweep against Villanova, Greenwood went 6-for-13 at bat, hitting .462 with a home run, three runs batted in, three runs scored, and three stolen bases. She began her week with an RBI single during a game against Iowa State before contributing to an 11-10 walk-off win over Villanova by going 1-for-4 at bat on Friday night. On Saturday, she recorded two hits in three at-bats along with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored while successfully stealing two bases as Creighton secured an 11-3 victory by run rule. On Sunday, Greenwood hit a leadoff home run—the team’s second leadoff homer of the season—and went 2-for-3 with another stolen base as Creighton finished its sweep with a 10-1 win.

Currently, Greenwood leads Creighton and ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference with 38 hits. She also holds both team and league highs for doubles (nine) and has scored 27 runs while maintaining a perfect record on all fifteen stolen base attempts this season.

Vandewater was recognized for hitting .500 last week (6-of-12), collecting two walks, seven RBIs and five runs scored while achieving a slugging percentage of 1.083 thanks to four doubles and a walk-off home run. Gilman earned her spot on the Honor Roll after posting two wins alongside an earned run average of 3.71 across eleven innings pitched; she struck out nine batters while allowing six earned runs from twelve total hits last weekend.

Looking ahead, Greenwood and her teammates will face Omaha in their next game scheduled for Wednesday evening.
